Ken Pomeroy rates Kentucky's overall schedule as the 18th toughest and UK's non-conference schedule as the 32nd toughest

Tipton. A long piece covering a lot of topics. Pretty good stuff.

First is a human interst piece on Pikeville's coach, who coached Darius for one year at Mason County High and Darius' father one year at Morehead. He knows Darius' game quite well, but says it'll be hard to stop him.

Also, a Danish reporter's interesting perspective on attending the Blue-White game. Some quotes:

Expecting to see only students in the stands: "I didn't realize it really unites Lexington and the area around here."

"I was surprised by how much Americans eat during the game. Everybody ate at least a hot dog or pizza or ice cream. I didn't see anybody not eating something."

On the political season in Kentucky: "We have a ban on political commercials on TV. I'm surprised by how low they go."

Besides the mudslinging, the lack of specifics struck her: "A lot of politicians really get away with 'We want to cut spending, we want to cut taxes' without saying what they want to cut. If you cut, someone will suffer."

Tipton writes a few lines on UK equipment manager Bryan Settle's resignation. No insight on the reason.

But wait, there's more. He notes Calipari's line about Fenerbahce Ulker having four million reasons to want Enes Kanter back, then makes the fair point that UK also has a financial interest in using Kanter to advance through the NCAA tournament, with each game worth over $200,000 to the conference, not to mention the exposure. So Calipari's motives aren't purely altruistic.

Further, Ken Pomeroy rates Kentucky's overall schedule as the 18th toughest. Says Cal isn't exaggerating that badly in saying it could be the hardest in the nation. Depending on whom we play in Maui, UK's is one of the tougher schedules among top 25 teams.

Stallings says Vandy gets no respect being picked 5th in the East. Nearly tied UK as regular season champs and lost only two players.

Selby also awaits a ruling on questions about his amateur status. Self says there's no news, but he's hopeful.

Coach Dale Brown turns 75 today.

Whew.

Mauled by a dog? How Omenesque this All Hallows Eve. Anon's familiar, no doubt.

Take care, G. You can fill us in later. Or leave it up to us to imagine what happened.

Tipton's articles can be quite, well, normal. Like this one. Makes you wonder why he doesn't write like this all the time. Informative and fair. You may argue there's no equivalence in the financial gains on either side of the Kanter issue, but it's clear UK stands to gain something.

I note that this piece appears in the American Chronicle, which has a national circulation and audience. His infuriating pieces appear in the Lexington Herald-Leader and his blog. As though he were cheesing off the locals by design.
