The New York Times issues a correction about Pete Thamel's October 13th article twelve days later

Good find Aaron! How many people actually see the corrections section I wonder. Unless of course it is brought to their attention.

"An article on Oct. 13 about the eligibility questions surrounding the University of Kentucky basketball recruit Enes Kanter, who played for a professional club in Turkey, referred incorrectly in some editions to a quotation from his father, Dr. Mehmet Kanter, that appeared in The Sporting News. When Dr. Kanter said, “he is very smart and academic and loves to study,” he was referring to Enes Kanter’s younger brother, Kerem, not to Enes."

Matt Jones at Kentucky Sports Radio caught this error, among others, the day of Thamel's story. See "Pete Thamel's True Weakness: Fact Checking" at

Yep, I was aware of it from the KSR site and Matt Jones' podcasts as well. Really surprised the Times even said anything about it at all after all this time.
Not a 'timely' correction at all.

Too bad out of all the corrections that should be done to his articles, they only choose one. Thamel is a tool.
