We REALLY looked like freshmen last night.

Only bright spot is we started last season in much the same fashion....

Kanter is a must have.

Does anybody have a clue when we might hear something on the Kanter ruling????

Judging from the open blog at A Sea of Blue, there is a tendency to read too much into last night's performance. Some are already making dire predictions. Things are volatile right now, it'll take time before we get a good idea what this team is about.

I found the radio broadcast. Couldn't watch. Once again ESPN3 had it on the schedule a couple of days ago, but last night it was nowhere to be found. Their explanation: "ESPN makes its programming decisions based on a number of factors, including viewership, as reflected by ratings and the interest from advertisers and affiliates, on a nationwide basis and is always investigating programming opportunities to better serve sports fans." Lesson: Just because ESPN3 puts it on the "Upcoming" list doesn't mean you'll get to see it.

Anon, basically no. We don't have a clue. I'm still inclined to listen to Brett Blevins at hoopsreport.com, who appears to have excellent sources inside the NCAA indicating Enes will sit out six games, with some feeling he shouldn't sit out at all. That may be the reason for the delay.

With our first game fast approaching, I would think we'd hear something in the next 10 days. But I'm optimistic he'll play, and play sooner than most people think.

Thanks WG!

WG,
First, I think you are dead on with the ESPN3 thing. They claim to have all kinds of programming "upcoming" only to yank it at the last minute. Funny, when I wrote them I got almost the exact same response. Anyway, I'm a little less inclined to believe a decision is coming in the next 10 days. I hope Blevins is right (he has been before) but I think it will be more than 6 games since I don't expect a decision in November. My guess is that he will be cleared by the middle of December. Either way we wont have him for Maui and that is going to be the toughest portion of our schedule IMO (especially if we make it to the final against, presumably, MSU).

You're probably being more realistic, Nick. Certainly the stories of how understaffed they are, how fall sports such as football take precedence over the winter sports, the importance of setting the correct precedent for this new rule, and their history of moving slowly, achingly slowly on such things would suggest this could drag on and on.

It's not easy waiting for an answer, is it? I know it's hard on Enes.

I just spoke with Kelly Wells(Pikeville Coach) and he said he and Cal mutually agreed for Pikeville to not zone the Cats in last nights game since it was a preseason game. Cal said that they had not covered any offensive sets to counter a zone-D. Wells thought UK would see a lot of zone this season unless Kanter plays.

Thought that was interesting.

How is that you have practiced this long but having been working on zone sets? Is Cal dumb? Did he not pay attention to last year? Learn how to be the 1-3-1 and get used to zone because if our penetrating ability, we will face it a lot. And if Kanter is found to have not been given a salary, then whatever games he has missed waiting on the decision should be the only ones that he misses.
