FAYETTEVILLE - Junction City swingman James Anderson may have taken a step
closer to making a college decision.
Anderson, 6-5, 190 pounds, is the top basketball prospect in the state's
senior class, and it appears Oklahoma State may be where he is headed to play
college basketball.
Junction City Coach Joe Hammett told Rivals. com that Anderson now has two
favorites.
"James has Kansas and Oklahoma State at the top of his list," Hammett told
Rivals.com. "Arkansas, Florida and Kentucky have been placed on the back burner,
but I wouldn't say they've been eliminated just yet. I just know that Kansas and
Oklahoma State are at the top for James." Anderson has visited four of those
schools. He hasn't visited Kentucky, and it appears he won't take that visit.
Another source familiar with Anderson indicated Thursday that he thinks
Oklahoma State, where Anderson visited this past weekend, is the team to beat.
Hammett is fielding all phone calls concerning Anderson, who hasn't spoken to
the media in a few weeks.
"James was thinking about taking a visit to Kentucky, but that's been put on
hold for now," Hammett said. "He is just going to do some thinking and is hoping
to pick a school when the early signing period arrives in November." Athletes in
most sports other than football can begin signing letters of intent Nov. 8. The
early signing period extends for a week.
While Anderson has been at the top of Arkansas' wish list, the Razorbacks
have an oral commitment from Springdale Har-Ber guard Nate Rakestraw, 6-4, 212.
They are also recruiting Har-Ber forward Michael Sanchez, 6-8, 235, as well as
some small forwards from outside the state.
