Anybody know just how many numbers there are "from which to choose"? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?
The answer is 37. Because the ref signals the player's number to the scorer with one hand, you won't find any 6s, 7s, 8s or 9s on a jersey. Only 0-5, including double zero.
Is that why basketball teams (as opposed to baseball teams) retire jerseys and not numbers, because there aren't that many numbers to begin with? Anybody?
