I've been hearing about Cal's "EGO" for sometime now. I believe all these writers don't even know the definition of the word. I don't believe Cal is an egomaniac at all. He's got pride and confidence and he won't allow one player dictate or navigate his career, especially as unpredictable as NBA is.
That statement is demonstrative of why MOST UK fans are not taken seriously. Not ALL but it seems the more reasonable and logical UK fans are greatly outnumbered.
Tony now i know you wont take this post "seriously", but thanks for speaking on behalf of ALL UK fans. By the way, what team do you follow? Bet you wont disclose that.
I'm sorry Tony but being taken seriously is not something synonymous with being a "sports fan", we're not in a theological debate here.
I'm not defending Coach Cal or trying to be a homer but ANY successful person is an egomaniac to some extent. Since Cal (arguably) is at the pinnacle of coaching and everything it encompasses he is the target of those that like to tear down the accomplishments of others. Factor in that they are "sports fans" and you have a fanatical element tainted by home team bias out to diminish Cal.
Hell, I even admit I'm biased against Coach K because I'm a UK fan and I despise Duke but at least I can admit it. Others don't and do nothing but sit on their high horse and criticize.
Thank you both for making my point when I say MOST (eeky) UK fans not ALL (Marc). Point well taken Marc. It pretty much sums up all of US (me included). However Cal gets a lot of negative press not because he has reached the pinnacle but HOW he got there.
