What a waste of money, I am sure the Birmingham school system is so flush with extra funds in the budget(sarcasm) they can pay out 100 to 200 thousand dollars for this repeat "investigation".....

They are dead set on finding something even if it has to be manufactured....no other reason...total BS.

Marc,

If there's nothing there then there's nothing to find. The mere thought of this past season being vacated is your real issue with it.

It's not a waste because they are not just investigating Bledsoe, they are also looking into their system that allowed it to happen. Face it, Cal and UK gambled on this transcript and may get burned. You can't have it both ways, take the bad with the good. Wall's transcript and behavior were questioned to the point his home state (Duke, NC) passed on him as bad as NC needed him. Hindsight to this point seems they made a HUGE mistake but passing on Bledsoe may have been for good reason. Or maybe not and he gets cleared again for the 20th time.

If this season is vacated because of it I still don't believe anybody will lose any sleep, maybe Sandy Bell. Cal will still be Cal and Bledsoe as of last night is now guaranteed to be paid.

Huh. There's obviously some friction between the AHSAA and Witherspoon, the superintendent of Birmingham city schools. He came out of their meeting soft-selling the investigation. It was going to be limited, he was just going to check the grade books to make sure the transcript was correct and Bledsoe met state academic eligibility requirements to play his senior year. Now it looks like the AHSAA has decided he can't be trusted to investigate all that needs to be investigated.

I like the appearance of impartiality, but it does seem a bit of a waste. The law firm doesn't have subpoena power, it doesn't have any more power than Witherspoon to force anyone to say anything. But at least AHSAA can say it did everything it could.

I'm looking at the Hoover school board's 68-page report, referenced in the story.

That's $2,205.88 a page.

We're in the wrong business.
