ESPN's Doug Gottlieb has Enes Kanter as his early projected No. 1 pick in next year's NBA draft

So Enes is not yet eligible? Without him this class will struggle. With him I say Kentucky is as much a favorite to win it all as anybody.

old news? we have known since the beginning that the clearinghouse has technically cleared him but there does seem to be rumor that the ncaa is still looking into it.

Kanter might be Gottlieb's projected No. 1 pick in the 2011 NBA draft, but that doesn't mean he'll be a one-and-done. A lot of kids give lip service to going to school and staying more than a year and getting an education, but coming from Kanter and his parents, it's a lot more credible this time around.

I'm rusty on this but I believe we must wait until the end of August when the NCAA is expected to alter some of its protocols relating to Kanter's situation (Played for a Turk Pro-Team but took no real money --- too young to have a Pro Contract by the Law there also, must be 18 ... he just turned 18 in Kentucky last month).

This should happen from all I've read and Kanter will be able to play. You really haven't been hearing much about this presumably because everyone expects the NCAA to make the expected changes.
Chime in if you know more or exact details.

That's basically right, Glenster. From Luke Winn at SI.com:

"NCAA proposal 2009-22 would allow international athletes who’ve played on teams with professionals, but not received compensation, to become eligible immediately, rather than face lengthy suspensions under current rules. Proposal 2009-22 was adopted at the NCAA convention in January, and passed a March 17 override deadline without the requisite number of objections from universities. It’s slated for final approval in April, three weeks after the national title game.

"The rule would go into effect on Aug. 1 as 'exception 12.2.3.2.1,' stating that, 'In sports other than men’s ice hockey and skiing, prior to initial full-time collegiate enrollment, an individual may compete on a professional team, provided he or she does not receive more than actual and necessary expenses to participate on the team.'

"That would clear the way for John Calipari’s 2010-11 Wildcats to immediately have the services of one of the most high-profile European club prospects ever to jump to U.S. college basketball: 6-foot-9 Turkish forward Enes Kanter, who was the MVP of last summer’s Under-18 European Championships."

From the same SI.com article in March: "[Kanter] has stated in the Turkish press that he hopes to enter the draft in 2011."

Damn.

Thanks Wheatgerm ... that's what I love ... 'The Facts', great work.

I'll ignore the 'Kanter to Draft' statement for now. lol
But I certainly will not blame him should he choose to go in 2011.
