It was more evident in the video of his press conference. The guy really misses UK. Had tears in his eyes watching highlights from last season.
I'm a Calipari apologist, but this is a sore point with me. He pushes kids out the door if someone will draft them in the first round.
But what if they want to enjoy their youth a little longer? What if they don't want to make the jump into adulthood and serious employment just yet? DeMarcus is still just a kid. Calipari should have given him the option.
Calipari pretends he's being unselfish. He said the only reason DeMarcus would come back would be to give him more wins. But getting kids into the NBA draft asap is certainly burnishing his credentials with the next crop of recruits. So the strategy is serving his coaching interests quite nicely, don't you think?
With any luck, DeMarcus will counsel Kanter and the other freshmen to appreciate how precious their short time in college is and not to feel they have to rush to get into the league.
Wheatgerm that is a one big strawman you made there. I recall Cal reporting that both Wall and Cuz at one point after the season still had not made the decision whether to go pro. yet you are confident that it was Cal himself that pushed them out the door despite their wishes.
I prefer to think that Cal is being completely honest with these kids in every aspect and the decision to go pro is being made by them and their parents.
