An attorney representing UK sent a letter Wednesday evening to the Chicago Sun-Times demanding retraction of a story by reporter Michael O'Brien from the paper's high school sports Web site

The metamorphose that is occurring within the media is cause for alarm. Gone are the days when you could read an article and actually believe it. Especially in sports and politics the intention of the media is not to inform, it is to seduce the reader into accepting viewpoint.

Maybe not alarm, but cause for cynicism, certainly.

There are still writers out there you can trust. DeCourcy will speak out against other sportswriters. Percy Allen in Seattle covered the Terrence Jones story with impeccable professionalism. You just have to find them, stay with them and shake your head at the Michael O'Briens of the world.

It is now the era of the dreaded unnamed source. I can't say I really blame these guys though. It's a tough world out there right now and their job is to attract readers, and that means not always reporting the boring truth. As much as everyone has hated on this guy, people read his article....
