Daniels would take us to the 13 scholarship limit for 2010. We have 1 graduating and 3 committed for 2011, so 2 more players on this year's squad will have to leave. (If Polson became a walk-on, only 1 would have to leave. If Dodson transfers, we're even.)

But if we're still looking to sign Rivers or Quincy or Wiltjer, that's another player on this year's squad who can't stick around.

Either we'll have guys going pro or there will be a lockout and we'll have an obvious and valid excuse for offering more scholarships than would be available. Also, Polson knows he has no guarantee for next year. And Dodson is probably done; stick a fork in him.

In the end, a scholarship really isn't that much money at UK. If you are pro material, you are better off coming to UK as a walk-on than going somewhere like UL - where they refuse to start freshman like Siva, even when he's the second best player on the team.

I wouldn't worry about the scholarship aspect of this. Kanter is gone next year and do you really think Cal would let Dodson take up a scholarship above one of the incoming freshmen after all that has happened with him this year? I'm betting (despite everything he has said) Knight will be one and done and probably Terrence Jones as well (assuming there is no lock-out). That would give us 4 scholarships to offer right there. Miller is not coming to UK now that we have Davis and Rivers is probably going to Duke. My bet is we sign a center like Chandler or pick up Lebryan Nash and run a ton of dribble drive. Just speculating though, as we have seen the past couple of years, anything can happen.

How many more Cal signs is a good gauge of how many he thinks will enter next year's draft.

Earlier this summer he was talking up Darius and DeAndre as draft material. Throw in Kanter, Knight and Jones (legitimate possibilities), and Cal could sign 4 or 5 more players from 2011.

Don't know why Davis would scare away Miller. Sounds like the Bledsoe-Wall talk from last year. Duke had Rivers at one point, but now, not so much. He keeps considering other schools. First it was Florida, then Duke, then North Carolina, then Kentucky and Kansas. That's not good for Duke. And Cal has showed us time and again how scary his recruiting powers are. So I'm not closing the door on Rivers. Man, a shooting guard like that would really fill out next year's team!

A Rivers add would make it arguably one of if not the greatest freshman class ever...

Last years Cats would have sewn that distinction up if they had won a title...
