Pete Thamel of the New York Times says three independent compliance officers said in interviews on Tuesday that under N.C.A.A. rules, the organization could vacate UK's 2009-2010 season

Pete Thamel is such a little bitch.

I love how he insinuates that Calipari should somehow be held responsible for a Turkish team paying Enes Kanter.

It's amazing how writers that basically amount to message board trolls have managed to get jobs at the NYT (Thamel) and ESPN (Forde).

True that. I love the way he never comes out and says Calipari is to blame for any of the stated troubles (because it's true, he's never been implicated, directly or otherwise), but he still manages to hang the man with innuendo. What a slime.

And did anyone notice that Thamel conveniently neglected to mention the one part of the Birmingham News story that would exonerate UK in this matter? The statement of the night school teacher who said the supposed "C" was incorrect? No, Thamel has no interest in presenting the whole story. Only the damning parts.

You don't have to be a compliance officer, much less an independent compliance officer, to know that the NCAA could vacate UK's season. Duh. Who didn't already know that?

And can someone explain how compliance officers, who are not allowed to discuss student grades because of privacy laws, somehow feel free to do so when granted anonymity? Like it's ethically okay so long as no one can identify who's violating the privacy laws? It's not their privacy that's meant to be protected!

Thamel is no Kentucky hater, he is a Kentucky opportunist. And he no doubt is having a great time with his new found popularity of being the most hated writer by Kentucky fans - the largest and most out spoken fandom in college basketball. Thamel hit his first home run with his article on Bledsoe last summer and now he is up to the plate again determined to hit another with Kanter bait. And you can bet we will be seeing more and more from him in the coming months and years. He has found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. And nobody is more angry with Pete than Jerry, because that pot of gold was given to him by Billy Reed 10 years ago. Jerry has been the Prince of Darkness since 99. Perhaps we can expect a side show between Thamel and Tipton? Ya think? Any thing is possible when two dogs are fighting over the same scrap of meat.
