No, Terrence has the yellow light from Calipari to launch 3-pointers. As Cal made clear after the game, this team is not going to win with Terrence shooting 3s. He needs to be under the basket, posting up, getting rebounds and put-backs.
cal encourages everybody to shoot the open three ... "launch" was just the wrong word to use here ... that makes you think of poor attempts
jones gets pulled when he's the last player to jog across half court and they pass him the ball when he gets to the top of the key and he jacks one up ... when he's open, he needs to take it ... he needs to come out of the paint every now and then to get his big to follow him and open up the driving lanes for cal's offense to work
That's a good point, Chad, at least when the opponent is playing man-to-man. I suppose it's more a matter of degree. Here's how Cal put it in his press conference:
"But to be honest with you, I’m sitting on the bench saying, ‘We’re not winning with him shooting 3s.’ He may shoot one, two or three, but that’s not why we win. We’ll win because he’ll rebound and score around the goals, he’ll score on drives, stick backs.
"If he makes a couple 3s, that’s OK. If that’s what he got from this, we’re in trouble. That’s fool’s gold."
